Are these tacky?

We're putting in some French doors that lead out to our back deck. I'm curious about those doors that have the built in internal window shades. One the one hand, they seem convenient and we wouldn't have to block the doors with curtains or external shades that would flap around. On the other, I wonder what happens if the shades break. D you have to replace the doors? That would be a huge expense. Also, are they tacky? I go back and forth on that.
Does anyone have them? How do they look and work for you. What kind of guarantee comes with them? |

| Yes, but putting a curtain on a door is a pain so if you like them, go for it. |

I think they're fancier.
Another option is the wood blinds that are on the outside. They lock down on the bottom so that they don't flap around. |

| My neighbor has one. I don't think it is tacky. I like them, except there's one draw back. It does not have the insulating gas between the two glass panels. One of the panel is removable allowing acess to adjust the blinds. |

It looks nice but having a glass door makes it easier for someone to break into your home. I got rid of my glass door and opted for a regular door.
I'd rather be safe (and alive) than not and have a fancy door. |

I'm not crazy about the look myself.
Can you get shades (wood?) that fix onto the door so they don't flap around? |

| We installed one last summer when we had to replace a door bc of woodrot. We absolutely love it. Looks great and very well made. It's nice to have the privacy that we didn't have before. |

| I don't think they are tacky, but I do wonder if they will seem a little dated, you know? Considering it's a door, a part of the house, you want to avoid that, maybe. But, no, I don't consider them tacky. Another option are plantation shutters. The individual doors have 2 or 3 rows of shutters, I think. I've seen them on doors, and think they are very cool looking. Also avoids the flap! |

| Some folks get antsy about privacy, but I prefer no treatment on French doors. Spend all that money for full-length panes with trim and hide it behind a shade? Not my deal. |

I'm curious. How are they different from windows? If someone is willing to break glass to get inside, can't they just break your windows? We wouldn't dream of living without windows. |

Bc someone can break the glass and turn the door knob by sticking his hand thru the hole.
Plus windows often are father above ground. |
