Any suggestions for some fun family friendly 5ks? My kids (8 and 11) and I would like to do some fun family 5ks. The 1 mile fun runs are too short but we would have to run/walk the 5ks - at least for now. We did a color run last year and loved it. The obstacle races look great but kids have to be at least 13 it seems.... Any suggestions?

| We just did the lorton prison break race. Course was hard, but atmosphere was good, and parking easy |
| All of the elementary school-sponsored 5Ks are family-friendly. In Vienna, the Vienna ES 5K is 4/27 and the Flint Hill 5K is 5/3. |
| Crystal City 5ks - there is one tonight and every Friday in April. Start at 6:30pm. Tons of kids running, very diverse (huge) crowd and well-organized. Metro accessible. Also, you can get the series (all 4 races) for $60 which in this area is a great value. Race by race it is $20. |
+1 We're doing the Vienna 5K. |

+1 the recommendation for the Crystal City 5k. A fun and flat course and lots of parents with elementary aged kids. After I crossed the finish line, I saw a red cheeked little girl run across the finish line with a determined face. Couldn't have been older than 5 or 6. It was really a beautiful moment, and I loved seeing all the kids running with their parents.
If anyone is wondering, the race is stroller friendly too. |
| I did the Zombie Run with my kids last year and they had a blast. They are boys age 9 and 11. They got a lot further than I did. |

Girls on the Run (GOTR) has two 5Ks that I know about (I'm sure there are more); one in Ballston on May 18, one, on May 17…I think is in Fairfax area.
Anyways my kids are 9 and 11, and the races are open to everyone this year. You do have to register etc. Look up gotrnova.org or google "girls on the run" to find your area. |
