Can you still renew passports at USPS?

Specifically, can I renew passports for my two children, both under 16, at the post office? A friend of mine told me I have to go to the D.C. Passport Agency, which I'd really like to avoid! TIA.

Yes, but avoid a certain clerk at the Friendship post office in Northwest. To say she has an attitude is an understatement. She makes all the Barry-era workers at DC DMV seem downright customer-friendly.

Yes. Call and make an appointment (they book months in advance). Bring the kids' dad and their birth certificates.

Yes, but you can't make an appointment on weekends according to the Kensington and Bethesda post offices when I asked last summer.

Yes but you must have an appointment so definitely call first. Tysons west was not crowded and people are nice. They can take the photos there.

Reston does photos and weekends too. USPS on Sunset Hills.

Thanks, everybody!!

You can make Saturday appointments at the Bethesda Westlake post office. For photos - print out the discount coupon on the CVS web site.

Great tip about CVS - thank you!

Make sure you ask for appointments for both of your kids. DH called a post office for appointments and although mentioned two passports didn't specifically request two appointments - when we showed up and showed paperwork for both the clerical worker said "you only made one appointment" and wouldn't do the second even thought there was literally no one else waiting (fortunately one was only a renewal that required sending it in and we could do that elsewhere). And agree with PPs who mentioned making the appointments well in advance of travel. We called in January and some post offices were booked through April at that point - we found a post office in Fairfax that could do a weekend appointment in February.

We made an appointment at the westlake post office 2 weeks ahead. We went during the week. If you get an affadavit signed and notarized from your husband, he does not have to be there. Form is on the state dept website.

I had a heck of a time getting appointment in the BCC area, but went to greenbelt and it was done lickety split.
