Birthday gift for FIL

Anonymous
Ugh, DH forgot to send a gift to FIL. Birthday is in 2 days. Failsafe is to send them out to eat in their hometown (can call and leave credit card to cover the costs) but I'd rather order something from Amazon prime. Any suggestions? He's an old german grouch. Likes beer, wine and sausages, but DH has vetoed the gift baskets on Amazon. What would you order?

since it's your FIL, i would let DH deal w/ this.

A nice book about nazis? Just kidding! Seriously, a book about something he's interested in or by someone he admires.

What about a set of different glasses for drinking different beers? Such as one glass each: classic pilsner, english pub, belgian ale, craft pub glass, porter/stout, wheat beer

Have your husband find something. He's not 5. The gift doesn't have to arrive on his actual birthday. Just make sure to call on his birthday and you can say something like your gift is in the mail.

+1000

Especially since he keeps vetoing your ideas.

Better late than never....

In my family I have to pick and send 100% of gifts.

If I left it up to DH no one would receive gifts and my in laws would think I hated them.

We got my father & DH's father enrolled in a "beer of the month club" for their birthdays this year and they have both loved it. Each month they get a new beer to try and a booklet about the beer and the brewery.

Get him a gift box (assortment) from www.germandeli.com.
My German father RAVED about everything in the two gifts I sent him especially the sausages and the rolls/bread. It brought him back to his German childhood. The people who answer the phones are lovely and will make suggestions if you need help. They even throw in some goodies like german candies. Seriously, THIS IS THE GIFT (even if he gets it a few days late).

Your FIL sounds just like mine. We also did a beer of the month--although in our case it's quarterly. The first shipment won't get there in time for his bday at this point, but you might be able to send a card/ecard explaining the gift. Bonus: annual renewal means you never have this problem again!

How is this your problem?

Totally checked this out; problem is delivery would be late. Thanks all for the suggestions and even the criticism. I am just trying to be nice; I did email DH about it last week to remind him, and he blew it, but I still love my FIL and I am not trying to be vindictive here. I ordered a few books and his favorite spicy mustard (thanks Amazon Prime!!!) and we will send them out to dinner. I will think about beer of the month next time.

Omg, that sounds like my grandfather. He'd hate anything we gave him anyhow, so no need to worry about too much thought going into it. I sort of miss my grumpy german grandparents...good luck!
