I walk or combination of walking/Metro to work, and it seems that even when it's not hellish hot and humid, my long, medium-thick (some fine hair that grew back in after I lost a bunch a few years ago) hair is a Sopping. Straggly. Sweaty. Mess.
I've tried headbands to keep it away from my face and neck, both high ballerina-type and low chignon-type buns- nothing seems to work. I walk into my professional (even a little fashion-minded) office looking like a drowned rat. Once I dry off I'm OK- but I literally paper-towel off my hair, then wait for the rest of it to air-dry, of course deodorant and makeup again and sometimes baby powder in my hair but this of course takes a while and can be messy (I wear a lot of black!) Sorry so long, but this is a real PITA that I don't notice in others so much. I'm sick of slinking in hoping no one sees me bolt to my office and basically hiding out there till presentable. What would you advise? Anything work for anyone else? TIA!! |
| Maybe time to find another way to work on the really humid days. If your office has a gym/shower I'd just skip getting ready at my house and do it at the office. Sounds like your doing twice. Totally waste of time. |

Braids? If a bun doesn't keep it dry, there's not much to do. I agree--if you can, shower at work. Or maybe don't dry your hair at home, and blow-dry it at the office.
When I had long hair, I wore it clipped up during my commute. Finally, I cut it off into a crop, and have never looked back. No hair on my neck! Woo hoo! |
| No advice, OP, just commiserating. For me, it's mostly my face, so my makeup melts off of it and I feel disgusting until I cool down. It even happened all winter from going to the cold of outside to the heat inside. |
| Could you keep a blowdryer in your office and use it to touch up once you get to work? And this might sound weird, but have you had your hormones tested recently? It sounds like you're sweating a lot more than normal and that could be an indication of an endocrine issue. |
