Travelling to Charleston, what must we do?

Anonymous
Two kids, 14 and 9. What are some must see things we should do? Also, any restaurant recommendations? My hubby is a huge beer enthusiast. Any good beer spots with lots of taps? The kids are old enough to stay by themselves in the Hotel for a few hours in the evening so hubby and I will be able to get away by ourselves for an evening or two.

1. Take a carriage tour of the city
2. Eat at S.N.O.B. (Slightly north of Broad!
3. Stop referring to your husband as "hubby."

Visit some of the beaches. Ferry to Fort Sumter (sp).
Eat out often and make reservations - great food!
It's a college town so finding a place to have a beer shouldn't be tough.

Noooo. Bessinger was a racist and a secessionist, and you don't want to eat in one of his (chain) restaurants.

Visit the sites supported by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and take an interior tour of the homes. Very beautiful and unique.

If the kids can take a nice restaurant and behave, the Hominy Grill is fantastic.

Farther out and on the casual side, the Bowens Island Restaurant is a James Beard award winner, as casual as it gets and probably crowded at times, but incredible food.

Each of the Bessinger brothers opened their own restaurants. Maurice was indeed a terrible person...he recently died....but he wasn't affiliated with the other brothers' restaurants. Anyway you should check out the Glass Onion.
