| According to my dad. |
Troll. Go away. George Mason is at best an average adult studies college. |
| Automatic admission to anyone with a Nova associates degree. Sounds real selective to me. |
| maybe he was saying it is larger, not more selective. That would be true. it's the state's largest uni. |
|
Now you leave the OP alone. Maybe his dad's just trying to make him feel better about having to attend Mason.
OP, Mason may have been more selective initially; however, that is no longer the case. The truth is that Mason is filled with lots of bright kids who end up there due to finances or because they didn't get into other schools. Perhaps they chose Mason as a safety and ended up there because the other schools didn't offer the financial aid package that would allow them to attend. The truth is that the school's selectivity is not as important as what you get out of it. I went to a school with open-enrollment. It was the laughingstock of my town and considered the 13th grade instead of college. People had a point, everyone who applied got in. It was like a 4-year NOVA. However, that didn't stop me from going Ivy for grad school. The other truth is that you will have a great time no matter where you go. It's COLLEGE!!!! I had a blast during my 4 years at that laughingstock of a state school I had to attend. And met some wonderful people there. (I was also shocked to see so many super smart people from my school there. Finances. You go where you can afford it.) |
| I want to second what PP eexpressed I have a GMU undergrad Bachelor of Science Degree. I worked very hard, learned a lot and am now gainfully employed in my field. I worked and paid my own way as I went. My children clapped for me when I walked across the stage. Never let others discourage you. God bless and be strong. |
Not the OP, but you do know UVA offers the same, right? Both have minimum GPAs you have to reach, but it's the same automatic admission program. |
+1000 |
And you would be old and incorrect. 75% of all freshman live on campus. More would if they could. GMU has been building as fast as it can for the last 13 years. No. 1 in Up & Coming Universities on either Forbes or U.S. News & World Report. It takes a min. 3.5 - 3.8 from NoVA schools and good test scores and essay to get in. The university now services over 33,000 students, 10,000 or more are advanced degree candidates. The legislature is pumping money into all of its tech. divisions, including computer science and engineering. Its graduates make more than UVA and William & Mary's graduates do first year our per new president. The Law School has become a power in its own right. The Econ. department is thriving. Didn't you read about the billionare GMU graduate yesterday in WaPo who made billions in Silicon Valley and is back here to pour more money into the dulles Corridor Tech. Companies - those same companies that hire GMU grads and meet monthly with its computer science/engineering/ and serious game design departments to tell the university what it wants to see and give it grants the students work on while still undergrads. Oh, forgot robotics. Here's the neutral wiki page to bring you up to date: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Mason_University. |
This is correct. But it is not automatic. You must take certain courses at NoVA and reach a certain overall GPA plus get a certain grade in specified courses. It's a very good deal for a student set on UVA who can maintain the requisite grades. |

"A Bachelor's degree candidate in computer engineering can expect to earn $59,000 in their first year after graduating from GMU". Not bad. I'll take that. http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2012/10/17/tracking-graduates-wages-virginia#sthah.g15dsX7l.dpbs.

Yes but ITT grads make more than Amherst grads too. Doesn't make it prestigious. |
Yes i am sure Comm college students can make lots of money if they work hard....Except you have to forever look down when someone asks " where did you go to college". |
Who asks where you went to college?
Not one person asked where I went to college once I got my degree and entered the workforce. People wanted to know what kind of work I do, how long I've been with the company etc. And what person who's earned a degree would look down when asked where they went to college? After grinding away for 4 years, you proudly proclaim you earned your degree at _____________. I've heard of slut shaming, but college shaming? I take it you were rejected by Mason and still haven't gotten over it. |
| Bet you didn't know GMU had this many colleges. And just opened a brand new university in Korea. http://www.gmu.edu/resources/schools-colleges/ |
