Taxes - big jump this year?

Ouch. We saw a huge increase in our taxes this year.... After years of getting a nice chunk back from the IRS, we were not expecting such a huge hit this year. I guess we're canceling our summer vacation this year.

Anyone else?

I cannot begin to describe the size of our tax bill without weeping.

...and what have we gotten for all our money?

We've had to pay a nice chunk the last 2 years but for some reason, our state went up this year. We usually get a pretty decent refund from the state, and we still received one this year, but it was less than half what it was last year.

My taxes are WAY down says the guy on long term unemployment.

Why is this?

Our accountant says its because out investment portfolio did so well this year -- and they didn't anticipate such a jump so very little planning went into protecting our earnings from such steep taxes. We do the basics - try to max out our pre tax accounts and fund everything - not sure what else we can do to avoid this happening again. Ugh.

Tax rates went up this year. Deal with it, Democrats! This is called wealth redistribution.

Yeah. It is not just Democrats, but nice simplification.

I'd like to know your income before I express the sympathy you clearly covet.

Yes, but a good portion of the increase is attributable to refinancing our mortgage, so I'm not complaining.
