Swimming question (TMI)

Do you swim during your period? Would you, if you had paid for 5 classes of water aerobics, and 2 of those classes are on days when your bleeding is very heavy? I've know that in theory, it's fine to swim during your period, using a tampon or pad or nothing at all but I've never done it myself. I've always avoided swimming during my period unless I'm on the last day with tiny amounts of spotting. I don't like the thought of leaking blood into a communal swimming pool, I don't like the thought of using a pad that will bunch up as soon as it hits the pool water. The idea of a tampon sounds appealing as it avoids the two concerns above but then I think of the pool water (which I would not want in my body) tracking up the string, up the tampon etc. WWYD?

I swim all the time with my period. I was on the girls's swim team in high school. I never thought twice about it. Wear a tampon and forget about it. Seriously, this isn't/shouldn't be an issue.

agreed. with tampon, not an issue.

Use a super size tampon and don't worry about it. You won't leak. I was on swim team throughout high school. I mostly didn't bleed during practice; I always assumed that the cold water slowed it down.

Even on very heavy days, I only had a tiny bit of blood on the top (uterus end) of the tampon.

What about "grooming"? Do you ladies get a bikini wax? Shave? I want to swim more often but this is one of the things stopping me. I get too irritated by shaving and waxing is painful.

Swim shorts!

PP here, I've been wearing swim shorts thus far. Just wondering if there are better options

Definitely do not use a pad. That's gross.

I had no idea anyone would attempt to do this.

Agreed. I thought having your mom write a note to get you out of gym class was something from the 1950s or from made for TV movies.

Trim with clippers so hair is short - then wear boy shorts or other generously cut bottoms

Suck it up and use a tampon. DO NOT try and use a pad. Good grief.

OMG. Do people do this? Please tell me people don't do this. I may never go swimming again.

Tampons, girls. Tampons.

Diva or instead cup.

I wouldn't do this at a pubic pool, but we had a pool in the backyard growing up, and I would wear nothing. No tampon.

The brief time from changing in the bathroom to getting in the water was so short it wasn't a problem. And you don't bleed in the water. Not in the pool or in the bathtub.
