Should risk giving up a DCI feeder spot?

Anonymous
We are currently zoned for Bancroft, but was matched with a DCI feeder. Do I risk not taking the spot or risk not having access to DEAL? The timing of all of this makes our decision so much harder.

Are you also moving? If not, you haven't lost your chance to attend Bancroft
Anonymous
No, but if I don't attend Bancroft I wouldn't have access to DEAL? Currently that is still our middle school unless the DME changes that, which is what we fear.
Anonymous
Well, if you bank on Bancroft and it's zoned out of Deal, you'll be batting zero. I'd go with the feeder.

Who knows if there will be any middle class parents left in the city, for Deal or DCI, if these asinine proposals move forward? I think they are DOA given Gray's loss.
Anonymous
I thought DC was moving in the right direction. Guess not!

Since you're zoned for Bancroft, you could always go back if things don't work at the DCI feeder.
Anonymous
Ha ha ha yeah Gray's loss is really gonna set the city back.

And it is his staff that put this together.

Doesn't the new mayor have the option NOT to implement whatever the committee proposes? I would LOVE to hear what Bowser and Catania think about these proposals. As far as I know, Catania is not in favor of making any major changes until schools improve. I have no idea what Bower thinks about this. I would agree to the small changes proposed to individual boundaries for elementary schools and keeping middle and high schools as they are until improvements are made at lower performing middle and high schools.

Your right!

OP, I think it really depends on what you think would work for your kid. Bancroft is a great neighborhood school; it might, of course, change if it loses the Deal/Wilson feed. The DCI schools are generally good schools, but they are likely not convenient (unless you are talking DC Bilingual, which will probably be moving in a year). And if you got into Yu Ying and aren't interested or can't support the Chinese, then I would not think it would be worth it, especially given the location.

Forgot to add that if you are talking about Stokes French or Yu Ying for Chinese, then I think there is a loss if you then decide to leave and send your kid to Bancroft--he or she has lost the opportunity to have been speaking and learning Spanish at Bancroft. But if it's another DCI feeder, then at least he or she would be on par with Spanish skills.

OP here, it's Mundo Verde.

I assume it is for K or above, or you wouldn't have a right to attend Bancroft (because you were matched with MV), right? Personally, unless I had reservations about the location (which is pretty bad) or expeditionary learning generally, I would go with MV, no question. (It was our top lottery pick; no chance of going there with a # in the 400s!). Were you learning toward going to Bancroft until the feeder news came out today?
