Multi-age classrooms in elementary school

Anonymous
I am considering a private school w/ multi-age classrooms in their elementary school. It isn't a Montessori school but I think the groupings might be similar (1st-2nd grade together, etc). There is a maximum of 15 kids in each class (which is one of the reasons I am interested in the school). Does anyone have a child in a ES that has multi-age classrooms? I can think of some pros and cons but just curious as to what parents think about it practically. Also, does anyone know of any studies of the benefits? TIA.

Here's an online research report discussing the subject:

They do this at Burgundy Farm-- 2nd & 3rd Grade is together, as is 4th and 5th. My kids are younger but people seem to be very happy with it.
