Recruiters are focused on Graduation Date and current performance plus future potential over the 4 years of college Parents have created a non-existent problem that Recruiters are confused by BY They know exactly who they want to recruit and where the player stands for graduation year. |
Living in Southern California with top teams playing each other on girls side all the time. I’ve never seen college coaches at the sideline in all the years my oldest played and with my current kid. Not saying a college coaches never goto league games I’m just saying I’ve never seen it or heard from other parents the a coach from college X was at a league game. Tournament maybe but if they are ran by us club then they would probably follow the same rules as ECNL? |
It all depends on how GY showcases are defined. If its purely by grade only what will happen is parents will hold their kid back in school usually up to 2x. This will make them an 18 year old Sophmore. In league games they'd need to play on the u18/u19 team but at showcases they could play on the Sophmore u16 and u17 team. Do you want holdbacks that are 2 years older than your kid playing with /against them at showcases? |
No one said college coaches are confused by birth year only that college coaches have said that’s not the optimal recruiting format for their minimal time at showcases. |
In my experience at league games, scouts may show up after behind the scene talk between scouts and coaches and usually no one knows who they are or why they are there until maybe after the fact. |
A showcase or two is not truly a priority for college recruiting Recruiters have much more information on prospects than what happens at a singular showcase You people think we showup at a showcase with a blank notebook and are looking for a Disney movie moment among hundreds of players? |
Exactly, it's a multiyear process that often begins at U13. You quickly see who's already on the radar if you attend a summer college camp. They often already know top players by name. |
Well according to what was written about rumor about ECNL changes. Not the OP so obviously could be wrong but it said seniors must be under the age of 19 at the start of the fall season(so 18 years old as seniors) to be eligible to play their senior year? Which would make it impossible to be 18 as a sophomore and still be eligible to play JR/Senior year? |
So I guess you never attended this event where all the Socal teams do league games at Silverlakes for college recruiters. https://www.silverlakestournaments.com/battle-of-the-southwest/ |
That’s who you are competing with for college spots. League games are for competition first with some recruiting. Showcases are for recruiting only. They are not the same. |
| I don’t see what leagues decide to do about showcases being particularly newsworthy. I’m sure college coaches will figure it out either way. It will be 8/1-7/31 for league games until u19. |
Parents when people tell you who they are listen to them. The people that dont want a SY 8/1-7/31 rule that younger players play on a team with their grade. Don't want this because they know it will kill GY and players playing 1-2 years down on ECNL teams. They want club soccer to be like HS Soccer. |
I guess it would be possible to age out of a u19 system if someone was held back twice. |
And they want you to pay for it for them. |
How is a 2010 player playing 2011 or 2012 in ECNL today? |
