A PP just said that the coaches were only looking at players that they'd previously coached. Im sure some clubs have an idea of who's returning and moving up to the next age tier. |
FWIW, clubs were overwhelmed, especially the bigger ones, by CHRVA putting all age groups in one weekend. |
And MEVC was charging for each of 3 tryout sessions, not a single tryout fee. Some of the girls noticed. But most on the no-look court we’re trying so hard and not jaded enough to realize they were getting zero consideration |
From previous posts it sounds like your DD will have a leg up on competition so long as she stays with the same club. However the open tryouts are mandatory. |
So true! It’s a shame that it plays out the way it does, but it’s not always the Club’s fault. |
MVSA sends out an email before registrations close warning that they have 150+ players registered and only 30 spots, and that they will refund $ if your child wants to tryout somewhere else where their odds are better. |
That’s terrific. Classy move for sure. |
This may be too late to be helpful, but it’s not a good sign if they don’t have coaches in place. |
YES, ever. single. year. My DD got 4 offers her first year club and by the end of the season she was not be rotated out during games. She was invited to invite only clinics before the next year's try outs for her former club. She was cut after the first round of try outs from that former club. She was lucky enough to get 1 offer last year to play at a new club so took that. Unfortunately that was ECP, which disbanded/dissolved about 2 weeks before this year's try outs, so once again she was clueless. Her prior coach let her know where they were coaching this season and asked her to try out, and then that club did NOT give her an offer. There is zero loyalty in club volleyball. None. It is unlike any other sport my other kids have played where if you start with a club early often that club will look at the long term goal of developing you over the years and often you can stay year after year (not a guarantee but likely, such as lacrosse, soccer, etc). With volleyball there is no club loyalty so the players also are looking to change every year as well. Learn this lesson now for next year. |
clubless. I hate autocorrect which seems to randomly change words after I press submit. |
Eh, it's like a company or agency posting a job opening when the position is already filled. All a formality. |
That is shameful. I'm sorry to hear you had such a terrible experience. This year was worst than last year and I've learned a lot by reading this thread. |
Yes. Unfortunately this is an annual nightmare. We know several “incumbent” girls at clubs who didn’t get offers this year, and they were scrambling by Sunday/Monday. We personally know return players who didn’t get offers from Mojo/ECP and Metro (Regional) despite being solid players. The girls we know personally were strong enough to get offers from other clubs (in some cases better offers) but it was certainly not ideal and parents are pissed. |
Renaissance definitely has all their coaches. Apparently they are fielding at least 13-18U and are even having some unexpected B teams- also with coaches. As mentioned- this process is overwhelming for all clubs given all ages must be figured out over one weekend as opposed to divided up into 2- and this club has formed since early October so the likely the assignment of the coaches to the various teams was being figured out real time. However would sure hope that they get back to you about who the coach is for the team you got offered! They didn’t tell you at tryouts?? |
Exactly we've all been there, but at least you don't have to pay for the interview. It's the child with high hopes that get their feelings crushed. |
