Still haven't done my taxes

I'm going to use Turbotax and already have the software, but just can't get motivated!

All our major stuff is at the accountant and we have preliminary figures, but I haven't gone through and found all the deductions - various business expenses and charitable donations.

OP - we knocked out 95% of it on Sunday using Turbo Tax. why the procrastination? are you afraid you owe? how complicated are your taxes really?

I haven't, but I'm thinking I'll owe about $10,000 so I'm in no hurry

We usually get a refund so I'm always trying to get them done as soon as possible.

DH is anal about them. He does them in February.

I did my taxes a while back, but now have to do an addendum. My MD taxes will increase by a whole $1. I'm tempted to skip the addendum, but I'm sure in 10 years MD will come after me for that $1 and have added tons of interest.

I'm self-employed and have 5 rentals, one bought last year...and I still haven't done it yet. Like you, I can't seems to get started..

I believe the statute of limitations is only three years from the day you file your return. Interest on $1 for three years may not break your bank. But only you know how complex your taxes are (how much of a hassle would a full audit be). They may just issue you an adjustment notice requesting payment.

I hired a CPA this year. I hate doing my taxes. He finished them last week, refund projected to be deposited today.

Stuff is at the CPA. No doubt he will be asking me for more documents of some kind. But right now it's out of my hands, so that's a good feeling. It's the first year I'm not doing them myself, and I'm SO happy about it!

OP, you have plenty of time!

Advise folks not to take an extension -- we did that last year and...world of hurt. Someone fraudulently filed as us, both DC and fed, and large refund due has been held up until whenever they get this sorted out. If.

Get it in on time and beat the fraudsters.
