| Ok the dust has settled now has anyone turned down their spot at Field? |
| Field was hot, hot, hot this year. They got a ton of applications |
| Yes, we turned down 9th, girl. Loved the school but went public. |
| Field is the new Maret. |
I actually think you are very correct. They are both big money schools (beautiful campuses up on a hill, behind a fence in a posh part of town with top of the line sports facilities). They both have a focus on the arts and small class sizes. While Maret has recently become come more of an academic powerhouse and Field has catered to kids who might not do well at the more high pressure schools, I think that will change very soon. More wealthy parents will put pressure on Field to compete with the Big 3 and it will loose some of its funkiness. Maret used to be pretty funky too. With the intense competition to get into these top schools, there is definitely room for another "Big 3-type" school and I believe the powers that be have designated Field to be that school. |
| Disagree. There is always a smirk that comes with Field. Not in the same (academic) league as Maret. |
Field parent here who loves it. I don;t think it will ever be a "big 3" type school -- it has its own philosophy and approach and still accepts different learners along with high achievers and everything in between. They made that pretty clear to us during the admissions process. I definitely think it has become a hot school, not because its competing with other schools but because its different. While so many students are unhappy at other schools, you find the opposite at Field. They have hit on some kind of magic formula and I think parents are realizing they don't want to sacrifice their children's happiness and that they don't have to. They can learn and love learning. |
| While Field may not be in the same academic league as Maret, it's really quite harsh to say there is always a smirk. Always? That's a global. There's no smirk if your child is there and doing well. It's all about the fit. |
| Time will tell I guess... |
| We received an email from the Director of Admissions last night saying they do not expect to take any 6th grade students from the wait pool this year. I don't know how this may apply to other grades. We are very disappointed for our son. |
| ^^+1. Really sad today |
| Turned down a 9th grade spot. |
^boy or girl? |
| Anyone out there accepted from the WL? |
I hope this does not happen! We plan to look at Field for both our kids in a couple of years and we are interested in it because it does *not* seem to be a pressure cooker. It would be horrible it morphs into one. Competitive parents, please stay away from Field! Leave it to the families who appreciate funkiness!! |
