The travelsmith dresses tht I have seen look very synthetic. Not a fan personally.

I was going to recommend the Gap wrap dress, but it isn't on their site right now. It folds down super small, doesn't really wrinkle, can be modest over a cami, or sexy without. Try the Old Navy or Banana Republic version instead.

I love the black wrap dress from Boden. It fits really well and packs well, too.

I can see the second one here in Paris. The others shown in this thread look very American to me. The French are not so into Jersey. I think you might do better with a skirt and blouse, personally, than a dull dress. or http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Womens-Dresses/Occasion-Dresses/WH673/Womens-Party-Mayfair-Dress.html?NavGroupID=4

Are you looking for a cocktail dress? A lot of these are awfully dressy/business-y recommendations for a dress to clomp around traveling in.

The first Nordstom's one I like:

But - what's your style? What do you look for in a dress? What shoes are you planning to wear?

I think people are suggesting jersey because of the packability factor. I travel a lot for business and do good quality cotton or wool, depending upon season, and find that wrinkles aren't really a problem even with a roll aboard suitcase. Agree with other PP that more information is needed--how does OP envision using the dress--for running around during the day or for going out at night? Is this for business or for more casual? Why a dress? Does OP find that more comfortable than a skirt (or more formal) and does OP see it as a basic that can be dressed up and varied with scarves, belts and a change of shoes. Etc.

OP again- trying to keep packing to a minimum. I Like classic styles, hoping for something that can work for casual museum trip & walking around- with ballet flats, little cardigan. If it can work for a nice bistro dinner - different accessories and new little heels that I buy in Paris (!) then super awesome. I see some of these fitting the bill and will check into them- another plus would be a dress that is forgiving - though am hoping lots of walking will cancel out the bread, cheese and wine on my agenda.
