We were recently in the ER and were there for a long time, but all turned out ok. Thankfully!
We had a wonderful RN during this stressful experience. She was a fairly recent graduate from Radford. To be working in the ER and a licensed RN, I just have to believe the ER has many choices for the nurses they hire. I have heard many mixed reviews on Radford, but I’m telling you this RN was fantastic. She said so many good things about the school, that there is a new Business department and the Nursing program was difficult. Would just appreciate some feedback. Please just be constructive! Thanks. |

In NOVA Radford is looked down upon as near the bottom of the barrel of VA state universities. In other parts of the state, that is not the perception. Some kids downstate actually have Radford as their first choice. It attracts somewhat conservative students from the rest of the state. and does not draw much from NOVA.
The teaching there is very good. It's a teaching school, not a research school. The town is small, but the campus is beautiful. The nursing program is strong and the business school has a decent reputation. Most students seem to really like it there. |
| Agree with PP that Radford may not have much cachet in NoVa, but your experience in the ER shows that training and experience count for more than the name of the school on the degree in the real world. I've known a few NoVa kids who really benefited from Radford - it was great for them to realize that not every place is as competitive, academically or socially, as the DC area. |
| I went to Virginia Tech (15 mins from Radford) and Radford actually has a great nursing program. |
+1 also went to Tech. I hear they have a good teaching program as well. |
| My niece is at Radford now. She went to a FCPS high school and was an average student. She runs track, though, so she got some financial aid to go to Radford and has flourished there. I don't know too much about the rigor of the academics, but she has a good group of friends and is doing well. It was a good fit for her. |

I'm from NOVA and graduated from Radford with a BS in Accounting. I passed the CPA exam, have a great job with great benefits and work with new accounting hires!
As someone who graduated from this "bottom of the barrel of VA state university" with great friends for life that I made there, have been in and have gone to many RU grads weddings, and was really happy in college I'm just fine today. |

I graduated Radford majored in MIS. I'm computer engineer working for federal government and earn $120k/yr now.

| Does the reputation that Radford girls are quite promiscuous still exist? That was how it was when I was in school. I remember a guy at a Halloween party with a mattress tied to his back. He said he was going as a Radford girl. |
| Haven't these kinds of jokes - about any school - been around forever? |
I would add also that the quality of the product the school turns out matters, and that the Commonwealth of Virginia has quite a bit of depth to it when it comes to the quality of its public higher education institutions. It is one of the prime reasons we chose to live in Virginia and not DC or MD. |
| I went to Tech in the early 90s and it seemed like Radford was a totally different place than Tech. Seemed much smaller and more intimate--maybe a bit more like a liberal arts school. Anyway, it never seemed like a competitor of Tech because it is just so different. I have a positive impression of Radford and of the people who I have known who went there. I have never worked with a Radford grad but I am not in the medical field or teaching field so perhaps that is why. Good school I think. |
There are loser guys everywhere that will use any opportunity to put down women. When I was in college in Boston the guys from different schools had a cruel joke for most of the women's colleges. Simmons mattress, Pine Mattress, the Wellesley #uck truck, and on and on. Some college guys are just a##hol#s. Many women in the Middle East have no rights. For all the progress women's rights have made in America, there are some men that still act like cave men and slut shame women. They just can't help themselves to put down women. Sadly, many women also put down other women to make themselves feel better. Hope you feel big trying to ruin the reputations of hard working women at Radford. |
| I went to VA Tech and Radford did have a horrible reputation back then (90s) - mostly on easy women and low academics. I ran into a friend from HS (who went there) and she quickly told me how Radford was not a bad school nor full of sluts. But back then, it did have that reputation. |
Also heard that perverts would call VA Tech students and they hung up meanwhile Radford women stayed on the phone. This is from what I heard back then. I remember this since we did get sexual calls and we hung up. |
