Will progress of effacement or dilation be any indication of when I should expect to lose my M. plug

??? Or are effacement and dilation completely unrelated to losing the plug?????

I never lost my plug...as I understand it, many women do not lose it. Also, I believe you can lose it and not have any other signs of labor.

I would say not necessarily, I was 4 cm WEEKS before I delivered, and lost my mucous plug very gradually in the 10-14 days leading up to delivery...

i was 50% effaced several weeks before my due date, but a week beforehand, i still wasn't at all dilated. and i never saw my mucus plug. the morning my water broke, i was only 1 cm dilated when i went to the hospital.

my sister, stepsister and sister-in-law were all dilated for weeks before they gave birth, and never saw their mucus plugs either. everyone's different.
