Dropping afternoon nap, not morning nap?

My 1 year-old son has started taking really long morning naps when he goes down at 9am (roughly 2.5 hours). He then only takes a "blip" of a nap in the afternoon. Is he trying to drop a nap? And if so, why is he dropping the afternoon nap, not the morning nap? Has this happened to anyone else?

My son did that around the same age. I just moved the morning nap a bit later (from 9ish until 10 and then until 11am) until the 2 naps just merged into one. I took a month or two to do it. I think I would give him a snack before naptime for a while since he was sleeping at noon. Eventually I just kept putting him down later until after lunch which is where we are at today (he is nearly 3 yrs old now). When he is sick, he still occasionally takes 2 naps a day.

My kids dropped their PM nap too. When we tried to gradually push it back (it was at 9:00), they revolted by sleeping 30 minutes (ALL DAY!) We let them dictate their schedule and they gradually pushed it back to 11 - which is where we are now. They are sleeping 11-12:30/1ish and are 21 months. I really like this schedule since we are able to go do things in the morning and then get out in the afternoon - although it stops us from doing mid/late morning activities.
