In the last week or so, I went from fine to very swollen. My hands look like water baloons and my feet...well...I'm done to two pairs of shoes large enough to accomodate the squares I call my feet. Any home remedy suggestions? I've basically cut out salt and drink water like crazy. It's not helping. |
Call your doctor. I have this (at 38 weeks) due to high BP. They are monitoring me - a lot - so maybe you should go in and be seen? |
If you find a solution, I'd love to hear about it. I was the same as you - completely fine one day, severly swollen the next. I don't recognize my feet, my husband calls my legs "tempur-pedic" legs because you can make dents in them by just touching them, and I've developed carpal tunnel due to the swelling in my hands, which has caused my middle fingers to be completely numb. It's not fun. My doctors are not concerned, as my blood pressure is around 100/60. I also tried limiting my salt intake, walking more, elevating my feet as often as possible, wearing compression socks and wearing wrist splints at night.....and nothing has worked. I've resigned myself to the fact that it's not going to go away until after the baby arrives. : ( |
Agree to call your Dr. Sudden increase in swelling could be issues with blood pressure or other things that should be treated or monitored. |
OP here...blood pressure is fine (actually pretty low, about 90 or 100 over 60). Doctor knows about the swelling. Told me to have less salt. But that has had no effect. I will try walking more...but already have compression stockings, drinking lots of water, trying to keep my feet up (which is hard at work). If anyone has additional ideas, please send them along! |
I'm almost 38w and the description of the poster at 13:53 is exactly what I've experienced, right down to the dents and carpal tunnel and very respectable blood pressure. It's pretty crazy, and uncomfortable. But I went through the exact same thing with my first child, so I'm not totally shocked by it. On the plus side, I ended up losing weight like crazy right after the birth of my first child since so much of it was water... so hopefully we all have that to look forward to! Good luck! |
Same happened to me. I went to DSW and bought 2 pairs of shoes in a size too large. And I sat with my feet raised up at work. And I slept with my feet raised up on pillows. It's painful, I'm feeling for you. |
I've only had mild foot swelling, but I've had some luck with the "feet up the wall" pose that my yoga teacher suggested. Basically you lie on your back with your butt up against a wall and your feet up the wall at a 90 degree angle. If I hang out there for 5 minutes or so my feet and ankles de-swell a bit. |
