I am an embarassed alum (did undergrad at American). Does anyone else think their recent ad campaign has been just awful?
What does it say?

Oh, can't find too many online, but I've seen them all over buses, bus stops, and the metro.

"With just a few hours left in 2013, American University was made a laughingstock on CNN's annual New Year's Eve broadcast. As Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin did their usual schtick, Cooper was asked to reflect on being the recipient of American University's 2013 WONK of the Year award. With Griffin insinuating that WONK sounded a little ... erotic, Cooper couldn't muster what it even meant to be a WONK – a stark contrast to the speech he gave on campus. This feeling is shared nearly ubiquitously by the students of AU and likely anyone who has come in contact with the campaign, so don't worry if you have no idea what I'm talking about." |
How is the teaching there for business?
Agree, OP. it's cringe-worthy. I think they are trying to use policy wonk in a positive way, but the entire thing is a failure. The sooner they kill it the better. It turned off DD who is a STEM kid.
The ad campaign has too narrow an appeal to the 'insider policy wonks' but the terms is a left-over from the Clinton era, seems to me.
