Will you help me find a bathing suit, please?

I am 38 years old (will turn 39 this spring, so this is my last swimsuit season in my 30s!)
I've had several children by C section, so I do have a "C section overhang" that I am VERY self conscious about.
My thighs are not "flabby", they are pretty solid (and bordering on the large/muscular side) but they still have some cellulite
I'm about 5 foot 4, 120 lbs, I work out a lot and have nice upper arms. My measurements are 36-26-35.

In the past, I've usually worn suits from lands end with skirted bottoms--but they do look frumpy and I'd like to get something that looks a little more young, but not "too young", kwim?

I love retro (40's, 50's) looks and I'm more into solids/stripes/polka dots than prints (although I do like some small prints, like small flowers or cherries)

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I have a suit from lands end that I love! No skirt on the bottom, because I have big thighs. The skirt draws attention. It's the mid rise bottom in navy and then a printed v neck top. Good luck!

Also, if you're into retro, consider this bottom with a cute top: http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-beach-living-adjustable-high-rise-bottom-with-tummy-control/id_261057

That looks like a recipe for muffin top, PP!

OP, I've had weirdly good luck at Lord & Taylors. In your case i'd go for something with a little wow factor on top to draw the eye upward.

+1 L&T. Very big selection.

Comes in polka dot, too! Shop by pattern here:

Trust me on this one because I have a similar body. My upper body is great, but I am a little self conscious of my lower body.

First of all do not get a skirted suit. That is the first place people will look because it draws attention.

Second, go for a halter top type of suite to show off your shoulders and arms. People will be so distracted by your upper body that they won't pay your lower body as much attention.

Third, get a one piece. Nothing wrong with that, but unless your mid section is spot on, you may be self conscious.

Fourth, get your suit in a color that compliments you. Not everyone looks good in black. I look better in an orange coral color.

Fifth, bring a friend who will be honest.

OP please don't get a lands end suit. Your body sounds great and those suits are so incredibly frumpy. They depress me. Get a cute j crew one piece or a high waisted bikini.

I'm about your age and like retro suits, too - but I HATE those Lands End swimsuits. I think it's a fine line between cute retro and frump, me personally.

Modcloth, I think, has suits that fall on the cute side of that line:

This bottom is cute, I think:

A couple of years ago I got a more sort of fashion-forward retro bottom (that my husband, I will add, absolutely hates - he wants me in skimpier things, but I prefer full-bottomed suimwear). This one's fairly similar to the one I got:

I have similar proportions and went into one of those bathing suits shops when they weren't busy and made the woman bring me about 15 suits. I tried them all on and found a very cute Trina Turk with a halter top (shows off nice arms) and a really busy pattern (hides yucky stomach). Ask for help. They will accommodate!

PP here - this is obviously just my opinion, but I think that bottom is the worst of everything. It's not cute and it doesn't actually give that much coverage. I don't think. There are way more attractive options, I think.

I agree. Frumpy!

Thanks! I will definitely look at Lord and Taylor!

I checked out Trina Turk, but I think her prints are too big and busy for my tastes. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

What do you guys think of this one (I'd probably get it in green)

It's all right. Could do worse. But very "mom" looking, I think.

I don't think it's that mom looking and like the color options a lot.
