How much is a standard security deposit for a one week vacation rental house ?

It probably depends on the location. OBX may be one price, Virginia Beach another, Martha's Vineyard still another. Where are you going?

$500-$1000 DO NOT wire it. Tell them your preference is credit card. Any reputable business should be able to handle that.

$350 deposit paid via credit card.

Does that mean your security deposit + rental is 1.5 times the rental rate? Or is the deposit counting towards your rental payment?

50% seems fair, assuming it counts to the total rent payment. Then the final payment is due a month out, right?

Op here - no, let's say the rent is $4000 - they want $6000 total (4000 + 50%security).

Is the deposit refundable? Even so, it's a LOT.

We have rented lots of beach houses and that seems high. In Destin when we rented a large house (5k a week) the security despots was only 800$, which was returned about a week after check out.
