sciatica/nerve pain and chiropractic - good or bad experiences?

At 29 weeks or so I developed an excruciating pinched nerve, possibly sciatica. I'm thinking about trying chiropractic but frankly find the concept of someone crunching my back a little scary, especially while pregnant. I've searched these boards and found a few positive experiences, but would love to know if anyone's had good or bad experiences with this. Recommendations for a chiro also welcome. Thanks!

I herniated a disc in my lower back about 5 years ago, which led to hideous sciatic nerve pain. My chiro was the only thing that got me through it - I saw an orthopedic surgeon, too, but wanted to avoid surgery unless it became clear that I was not going to improve without it. I'm now almost 26 weeks pregnant and have continued to see my chiro monthly. She's wonderful, very gentle, and fully understands what changes in your body and spine when you're pregnant (she also has three kids of her own). In fact, she's been the source of a lot of great pregnancy info, coming from the more natural perspective (as opposed to the more medical perspective from my ob-gyn).

I'd highly recommend her - Marisa O'Malia, 2440 M St NW, 202-887-5375.

I had the same thing and went to Dr. Beck at Capital Rehab Arlington: http://www.capitolrehab.com/

I had never been to a chiro before that and was a bit nervous, but I can tell you he has fixed the problem for me. Also, he has a young baby so he just went through his wife being pregnant, and I think that helps him understand even more.

Sciatica is terrible - best of luck to you.

I had terrible lower back pain and went to Anthony Noya during my 3rd trimester, twice a week. I was a little nervous at first since I hadn't had adjustments before, but he works with tons of pregnant patients and I felt very comfortable with him. He has a special pregnancy pillow and knows how to work around the belly. It really did help my back pain.
