22 ACT score, 1000 SAT score(M/V). Where to look, suggestions?

My daughter is a junior and we are seriously looking at colleges. She's surrounded by peers that are applying to decent schools and while she's definitely smart herself, I honestly don't think she has a shot at UMD or any of the top privates that her classmates desire to attend. She really is looking into Old Dominion(only because they have marketed themselves to her very well), but that's out of state. Also I'm afraid that it may be too large of a school for her. Her father is pressuring her to apply to UMD, but she's intimidated by the size. She told me that she no longer wants to take any standardized tests because she has taken the SAT 4 times and she just wants to focus on applying to college in the fall. I'm not sure where to direct her as her list of requirements takes most schools of off the list. She is planning on being a business major(not accounting or finance), she wants to be in the city, and she prefers a student body less than 10k if possible, but larger than 2k. I like American, LaSalle, Towson, and Salisbury. She's expressed to me that Salisbury is not a good fit because it's isolated from the rest of the state. Where do you suggest that she look?

How about UMBC or VCU? I think both UMD and American are unlikely.

Why can't she look where she wants to? Is there anything irresponsible about her that you're so worried about?
She's done enough tests already.

What's her GPA OP, and what's the issue with her moving out of state? Will she be full pay or will she need aide? I agree with pp, let her do her own research and try to find schools that appear to be a fit for her, and then you can come in and maybe help her expand the search, if necessary.

I'd suggest she look at Pace (near NYC),Emerson and U of Hartford - possibly Ithaca but that is isolated, too (although the town of Ithaca houses 2 major universities, so not a quiet place).

Radford is also out of state but are generous with aid.

I'm just trying to assist with the process that's all.

her GPA is a little over 3.0 unweighted. Her dad isn't willing to contribute to an out of state college. And I would only be able to afford less than $ 1000 a semester

With that ^^ in mind, how about community college for the first two years with an eye to transfer to a four-year college?

What about Frostburg? Is that also too isolated? It's probably an hour and a half away.

You owe no one any apologies. Help your child as needed. You're there; we're here.

Is it cost of OOS that her father is unwilling to pay? If so, will she be eligible for financial aid that could reduce the cost of OOS? Or is the issue that he wants her to stay local?

Some OOS public schools are very comparable to MD publics. For example, Wisconsin-La Crosse might meet her requirements and be affordable. If she's willing to consider a larger school, Alabama at Tuscaloosa is very affordable.

If she will be eligible for financial aid, she might look at Belmont U in Nashville. Smaller schools that meet her other requirements are Eckerd, Wittenberg, and Southwestern in TX.

If her dad wants her to stay in state, regardless of cost, and she is willing to consider a smaller school, she should look at McDaniel.

Her scores seem low for UMBC? UMD seems highly unlikely.

I think she has a lot of requirements--business major, medium sized, urban, with scores in her range, and in Maryland--also public? (I'm confused about whether her dad's requirement is that the school be in MD or that it be in-state public. Either way, American doesn't belong on the list.) That school doesn't exist, so she is going to have to make some compromises.

I think Salisbury sounds like a good fit. Has she visited?

If she is interested in ODU, why not Towson?

Trinity DC. A hidden gem that is often overlooked. And I think offers the majors your DD is interested in. A dynamic president and lots of innovation going on there lately.
