Curious as to what Wards 7 and 8 options will look like

If Ward 3 is neighborhood elementary schools and "mid-city" is controlled choice, what do you think the DME and her cohort are thinking for Wards 7 and 8? I'm in Ward 6, and a lot of those kids are in the schools here. Does that pattern continue? Any speculation based on the meetings/working groups to date?

Ward 7 and 8 options probably include better boundary alignment to where students are, especially now that we know better where charters are draining the DCPS pipelines, as well as mobility to Wards 7 and 8. There is also going to be that test-in middle school.

I don't see how any setup could be acceptable that would limit options from Wards 7 and 8 for student mobility westward. The number of "quality seats" in DCPS there is growing but are disproportionately low and very low-performing compared to the rest of DC. So while limiting mobility east of Rock Creek Park could have upsides in some places, I really doubt it in Wards 7 or 8.

Well, there is the application middle school plan for Hillcrest.

A classmate of my daughters was put out of her HS because of too many tardies. He was then enrolled in his neighborhood school.

If it is your neighborhood school, then they have to take everyone regardless.
