| Yay or nay? Is the fact that it's milk (dairy) defeat the purpose? |
| Yay, it is like yogurt. Great on its own or in a smoothie. |
I vote yay! It's fermented so it has a lot of probiotics. It's also high in protein. We call it "strawberry milk." . My dd is sensitive to regular cows milk and can tolerate kefir. It's virtually lactose free because of the fermenting process.

Defeat the purpose of what? |

Funny we just did a blind taste test on two types of kefir about an hour ago. (both were organic pomegranate acai something…one was goat and one was cow. Both bought at Whole Foods.
If "the purpose" is to get away from cow milk, goat milk is much kinder on the system (it's more similar to human milk because the ratio of whey to …ah, the other…spacing here…is more similar to human milk. |
| kefir? I hardly knew her... |
Aren't you going to tell us which tasted better? |
| I'm a fan. I don't drink it, personally -- I prefer Greek yogurt. But my son doesn't really like milk or yogurt, and I want him to get some dairy plus probiotics. And he looooooves Kefir. I'm so glad we tried it. |

I don't know what the difference is between kefir and drinkable yogurt.
But we use the plain goat kefir. DS loves it. It also makes great sweet lassis. |
Different bacteria used to ferment milk. There is slight difference in taste too... Only problem I see with Kefir - flavored varieties are way to sweet, and not all store have plain in stock. Still much better than 10 years age when only place you can buy it were ethnic stores. |
Tons more healthy bacteria than yogurt. |

Good to know. Tons more $$$, too, it seems (certainly for the goat stuff) but worth it for non-dairy DS. And I agree with you about the flavored stuff being too sweet. We only use the plain, which is already kinda sweet. If we want it a little sweeter we add a touch of honey or maple syrup. |
