Does anyone have advice on San Antonio-area vacations? DH and I would love to rent a really big lake house or a few small cottages for a week-long, August vacation with his parents, four brothers, and their families. (There are 22 of us.) Most of the family are in the San Antonio area, so we thought if we could find someplace that's no more than a 5-hour drive away then that would be easiest for everyone.
Anyone from that area have any suggestions? Thanks! |
| Something along the Guadelupe River near Greune, Tx -- tubing on the river and Greune is like stepping back in time. |

Wimberly is cute but there isn't anything for kids to do. |

Last August our family stayed at the Marriott resort on the TPC golf course... nice water slides/pool that we all enjoyed

| Would second TPC, if you've got the money. Canyon Lake or Guadalupe River probably has more of what you're looking for as far as cottages. And San Antonio in August? If you think its hot in DC, you're in for a huge surprise. The humidity in TX punches you in the gut and just keeps kicking you when you're down. |
| I am absolutely obsessed with the above mentioned jw marriott resort. It is soooooooo nice and one of my favorite hotels anywhere. The food is also amazing and not overpriced. Tons to do w kids! |

Thanks, pps. OP here. We have the money for TPC and a more spa-like vibe, but my FIL would have a heart attack. He's a very simple guy and extremely stubborn. (We took him to a restaurant with cloth napkins once and he flipped out and insisted that they bring him paper.) He'd be royally intimidated by a Marriott. We thought a house where we would be more-or-less on our own might be an easier adjustment for him.
And, yeah, pp, we thought about heat. But we have to do this when the kids are off school. Would it be better to get out to the ocean? |
| If the Marriott & Hyatt are out look at Galveston, it's 4 hours from SA & you can fly directly into Houston from DC and then drive (it's about 45min) you can rent condos or a big beach house. We like Pirates beach. |
