Why do some people love to snitch?

Because it makes people feel important. Some people feel "special" if they know things about a person that aren't known by the general public. Some people like being sneaky.

It's disturbing how many people use the internet or facebook to stalk people/spy/find out details and then try to use that information to get one over on the other person, whether in the work place or among social circles.

I think it comes from a lack of purpose/meaningfulness in one's own life. They need to feel like they're in the know in order to feel important.

Because they're bored and don't have anything going on in their own lives to talk about so they talk about other people instead. Some people are probably malicious about it, but I think most people aren't... They're really just lacking in anything worth talking about in their own lives.
