Has anyone organized a multi-family van pool for drop-off and pick-up?

| How do you do it? Does one of the families provide the van? Do you look for a driver with a minivan? How do you find the driver? How do you pay him/her? How much? Are there any liablity issues? Any particularly pitfalls to avoid? Thanks for any advice you can provide. |

| Our family does not participate, but I know of a group of families at DC's school that contracted with a car service (listed under limousine services in yellow pages, I think) to provide transportation for their kids to and from school. The kids each get picked up & dropped off at their own house and I believe the liability issue is covered by the car service's business insurance policy. The deal ended up being cheaper than using the school's transportation option and the parents are thrilled at the time saved from not driving back and forth plus waiting in the carpool line. |

Do you know what company they used? Are they in DC? and how many kids is the car taking at one time?
I am really interested in this for kids aged 4-7. They would all need booster seatsthough, right? |

| I'm sorry that I do not know the name of the company, but the families live in Arlington. I believe there are about 6-7 children ranging from first grade to middle school. The little ones do use booster seats ... not sure if the company or parents provided them but the driver has them in place already in advance of each pick-up both at home and at school. The only "issue" I've heard raised is the older children's choice of radio station during the commute, and that one was easily resolved! |

| Criminal background checks were done on both the driver and the person who would serve as a back-up driver. The background checks were provided to the participating families. |
