If I could tell newly accepted parents one thing it would be ... ... ...

I'm a new SSSAS parent with a DD entering JK but I felt this was a good general question to post via this forum in order to get the inside track on what secrets or need-to-know advice current parents would pass on to newly accepted parents. Feel free to post about SSSAS or any other school. Inquiring and newly accepted minds are eager to hear your answers!!

We are a new JK family at SSSAS too. Nothing to contribute to your inquiry, but wanted to say, "Hello!"

Don't suck up. Be yourself.

Relax.

Save your money. Private school isn't all it's cracked up to be. Move somewhere with good schools of your current district isn't cutting it.

Oh hi, public-school troll! Didn't take you long to show up.

Pay attention to the car pool rules at orientation. There will be about 8000 of them.

I am an Alexandria parent who does not send their kid to SSSAS but another Alexandria private and my advice to you is to make sure your child is going to Lacrosse clinics and learning how to play. You will find out why later on. Just trust me on this.

12:28's advice is right on.... Make sure your kid plays lacrosse.

And, thank you OP for saying we could feel free to post about other schools, too.

Glad you know so much, not being associated with the school and all. Please do tell us your child's school so we can add those stereotypes to the thread. Maybe we can compare academics too!

Get over yourself. It's about your child, not you. "We" are not going to school next year.

OP here ...... ..... To 23:14 Thanks for posting and it is nice to meet another SSSAS JK parent here (under these veiled circumstances of course..lol) . For a second I thought I was the only new SSSAS JK parent who would post here. 23:14 (or others) Did you attend the welcome reception event they held a few weeks back? I thought it was well done though it was clear they were still in the "sale" mode (understandably so I suppose). I've enjoyed reading the comments thus far. Hopefully more will follow! I think "relax" and "mind the car pool rules" are the best examples of advice to me. Our previous preschool had a MONSTER CAR POOL!!! Hopefully it won't be that bad at SSSAS. Thanks to all who posted comments about SSSAS or other schools. Hopefully the conversation will continue as we approach the new school year.

Follow the car pool rules and join the PTA (whatever they call it)

Be kind to everyone. Goes for your kid too. Volunteer when you can, don't gossip and get to know people slowly. Figure out the lay of the land. Don't bug the teachers. Don't be a PITA to the administration. Remember your child is special, as all children are, but not THAT special. Most of this applies to many new situations, of course .
