The one thing I haven't really gotten are waterproof pads or covers for the crib and our bassinett. I've seen some that are almost paper thin, and others that are really thick and bulky. Does anyone have a good recommendation for what to buy???? I'm thinking I need at least 6 for the crib and 6 for the bassinett so I've always got extra and can change the pad without having to immediately do laundry every time the sheets and pad need changing. Any guidance is appreciated. |
I just bought ones at BabiesRUs. The fact that they were waterproof was the only thing that really mattered to me. As for the number, I don't really think you need that many. Babies don't leak through their diaper or spit up that much at night that you would be changing it daily. I only have two, and that has worked fine. |
I have had this for the crib for 3 years and it has held up well for 2 babies/toddlers. I have two (one in use and one spare) and rarely need to change it. Diaper leaks are very rare. I would just get 2. It's a bit fleecy, so makes the crib cozy.

What I did was get a waterproof mattress cover that fits like a bottom fitted sheet. I only got one of them for the crib and then one for the twin bed when we moved up to the big girl/boy stage.
But what I did get more of was waterproof liners. the baby stores sell small pads for this purpose but I dind't think they were big enough. Jo Ann Fabrics (the sewing store) sells waterproof fabric off a roll. It is usually in the area with the upholtery fabric on a big wooden bolt. I believe it is 52" wide and you purchase it by the yard. The fabric is about a 1/4 of an inch thick and is "felt-like" on both sides. You get a much bigger piece that covers almost the entire crib for about the same price as the tiny pad sold at the baby store. Then how I make the bed is: the fitted waterproof mattess pad goes on first, then a piece of the waterproof liner, then the sheet. Then another liner and another sheet. This way if there is an accident you can pull off the top fitted sheet and the top liner and you are good to go. This has really saved my sanity at 2am. It is true diapers don't leak that often. But, when they do it is always on the night when you are particularliy tired already. We use the same set up for our big kids until they are well past the potty training stage. |
What kind of crib mattress do you have? A lot of them have a waterproof vinyl coating that you can just wipe off if there's an accident. |
Six mattress pads? Really? I must be missing something because I made it through my first child with 1, maybe an extra in case of accidents. As for brands, just pick one you like - they carry mattress pads at any baby store as well as most of the big box stores too. This is not all that complicated. |
I have used these for five years and they are THE BEST.
