DH has been a mess for about 10 days now. Initially he had a fever and severe aches -- was taking Tylenol all the time. That has subsided but he still tends to fall apart every afternoon or evening: headache, joint pain, stumbling on the stairs, etc. He has separately complained of intermittent inner thigh pain: may or may not be related. A couple of our friends have strep or norovirus but those don't seem to match DH's symptoms.
We have an infant (who has a cold) but I don't think this is general sleep deprivation (nor is DH getting up in the night with DC). Initially I thought DH needed to suck it up, but now I am starting to get concerned. I've asked him to make an appointment with Kaiser. IMO, being a Kaiser patient requires a little self help in terms of laying out all the symptoms, asking for tests, etc. So, does anything about this jump out at you? TIA! |
I think he may need a neuro consult op
|
| I was surprised when I tested positive for strep with some similar symptoms. Also, my husband had similar symptoms with Lyme disease. |
| Agree with neuro consult. Transverse myelitits? |
|
Not OP but why a neuro consult? Doesn't fever reflect infection or virus? Though the stumbling on stairs is concerning.
I would recommend these things to start: strep test, flu swab, blood work (CBC), urine test. I too had similar symptoms at onset of Lyme though we've had such a cold winter, don't know if ticks are active (but my GP said she sees cases in the winter)...so Lyme test too. Do adults get mono? Because little kids get it and it can present like a mild virus, but is worse in older people. |
Just looked that up - better rule that out to be safe. |
| This is OP -- thanks all. Lyme disease was on my mind too. The suggestions for neuro consult startled me -- is it the stumbling that makes you suggest that? |
| Yes. The stumbling is a concern. Anytime there is a loss or change in coordination, a neuro consult should happen. I have an auto immune disorder, and illness exacerbates my symptoms. This happened for years before I was diagnosed. |
| Yes the stumbling. Also the leg pain. Assume you all have done the head nod test to see if that exacerbates the headache. |
| How is DH op? |
