Ready for stroller?

What age/ development level/ size is appropriate for using an ordinary stroller? Does the child have to be able to sit up independently? Any solutions-- padding or something-- for getting the baby into the stroller younger/smaller?

Hi - I saw moms with their very small infants in umbrella strollers, with the back laid down. i tried it with my second and it works well. they dont need to sit up. just get a good umbrella stroller. we have maclaren and worked very well for us
