I had a quick screening phone interview last Friday with an HR person for a position at a large company. About ten to fifteen minutes, if that
She said she'd let me know by Monday if I would be moving forward in the process; in fact, she said she would let me know if I wasn't moving forward as well. Well Monday was four days ago and I haven't heard from her. Here is the kicker: I forgot to send a thank you email. I never forget that. I am usually the queen of thank you notes but somehow forgot, I think because I had to do something else right after whereas I usually send the note right away. How bad is this? Do you think this could have cost me the opportunity to move forward and if so is there anything I can do at this point? |
| Send an email now that thanks her and asks for a status update. I don't think that not sending a thank you note would be enough to nix a qualified candidate. I'm hiring now and if I found someone I wanted and they didn't send a thank you note, that wouldn't stop me from making an offer. |

Phone screens do not warrant a thank you note. An HR recruiter does not expect you to thank them.
I agree with pp though that you might want to reach out to say hello and ask for an update. |
