| I'd like to start giving my 7 month old DS a little juice here and there. He hates water but I think he could start using a little more liquid. What brands/flavors do you give your babies? Anything organic out there you like? |
| I don't think you are supposed to give babies juice. |
| Why in the world would you give a 7 month old sugar water? |
| He only needs formula or breast milk. I started a little water and whole milk around a year. DS is 2 1/2 and still only gets water and milk except on special occasions. Juice has no fiber and is highly processed, your body treats it like pure sugar, it is never necessary. |
| We didn't give our 7 month old water. DC got hydration through breast milk and food. Why would you want to give such a small baby juice? Not trying to be snarky, just curious. |
|
Up until 12 months all babies need in terms of food/drink is breastmilk or formula (or a combo). The only reason they're given food is to start learning how to eat it, but they don't need the nutrition.
Your baby doesn't need water, or therefore, any juice. |
| No one gives their kids juice anymore. It's just sugar and has very little nutritional value. In other words, it's bad for them nutrition-wise, and it is terrible for their teeth. I never gave it to my kids and they don't even like it now (they are in elementary school). |
| OP here. Thanks for the responses. I only ask because pediatrician-written guide permits it and DS seems to be losing interest in formula. It takes him a long time to finish a bottle. Sometimes he doesn't even finish all if it (6-7 oz) and he won't drink water. I had to stop breastfeeding for a variety of reasons including low supply. |
Have you started him on solids? FWIW, I never worried about intake. I just paid attention to diapers - as long as they're going through 8 in 24 hours it's all fine. |
How is his weight gain? Has he remained on his growth curve? My kids never ate more than about 5-6 oz/feeding. |
| OP here again. Weight gain is good. He's on solids and loving them just fine. Doctor said to give him a little water but he's not having it. We live in a pretty dry part if the country (just left va) so I'm worried about him dehydrating as he's had some pretty solid poops. |
| Change in poop is probably due to changes in diet with new and varied solids being introduced. If baby is having enough wet diapers I wouldn't worry about it. If your really worried about liquids, you can give juicer fruits and veggies or add a little extra water to purees (liquids can be eaten too!) It's normal for their eating habits to change, but I would try to avoid juice if possible, it really is bad for them. sounds like your Dr's info is outdated. |
| OP, you are either an alien or just plain retarded. You don't feed a 7 month old juice. When you start giving a baby solids, their poop becomes more solid. If baby won't drink water, sugar water certainly is not the solution. There is also no reason for him to be consuming more than 6-7 ounces of formula at one time. Use your damn head. |
NP here. Intelligent and/or sensitive adults do not use the word "retarded" as an insult. I wonder why you couldn't give the same advice without the mean tone. Not all of us were perfect, all-knowing FTMs. |
Don't be rude. Her doctor told her to do this. And things have changed since we were babies. Maybe some other people have also been telling her to do this. Not everyone is up to date on the latest recommendations. |
