George Mason University - VERY happy so far

Anonymous
My son is in the engineering program there. Excellent university. What I love about it (and what he loves about it) is the fact that they have a libertarian bend, so there is no preconceived notion re: what to think and how to think.

My son loves the logical delivery from a lot of his professors. Said his micro-economics teacher was hard, but he loved going to class. I was amazed at how much he learned in that class and how interested he was.

Happy to hear this. Best of luck to your DS.

OP, that makes me very happy to hear! My DS was accepted and is currently considering his options. GMU is definitely on his list! It's a great school and offers so many opportunities. We were so impressed with the list of internships students have gotten there over the years. Thanks for posting!

All about fit, my dear. Good for your son. He will be far more successful in an environment that he LIKES than otherwise.

I find it interesting. I think it is interesting when a child likes their college right from the start. I hear that often about GMU. I hear they really care about their students.

Other college feedback is rarely as favorable from 1st year students. They often feel lost or like a number and eventually find their way.

But at GMU I often hear students love it there right from the beginning.

Do engineering students have time in their schedule to take Microeconomics?

I have had nothing but good experiences with the offices at Mason. My son is dysgraphic and the disabilities office is stellar! My friend's son is taking a summer course there (calc 3) and called me today to tell he me how accommodating they were - and she was just a walk-in.

Just seems to be a genuinely happy place.

It is SO about fit! Even though he's close to home (he lives there), he has a girlfriend now and we see him....sometimes. LOL.

It's required.

It's called feedback. People come here to inquire about colleges. I am providing some feedback on our experiences since people in this thread on the forum are interested in (say it with me) colleges.

You're welcome. I got my Master's there over 20 years ago (hurts to say that :mrgreen It was a good school then. It's grown so much, yet they seem to have kept their small feel, if that's possible.

Your son will enjoy it if he goes, I think. Congrats on the acceptance.

It's required.

Pray tell, why would an engineer need to know about the choices people make based on scarcity of resources?

I was a criminal justice major and microeconomics was required. So were an array of other non-CRJ courses. It's called being well-rounded, pray tell.
