am 31 weeks and stupidly lifted a backpack with textbooks. I felt a pull on my right side and have felt some tightening since then but have also felt the baby move and kick. Should I worry? Why would I do something so stupid? What could happen? would i know if i had really done something wrong? thanks |
Yes, you would know. But if you're stressed about it, that's not good for your baby either, so give your doc a call. |
You probably just overstretched your ligaments or muscles....nothing I would worry about since you said everything seems fine and baby is active. I tend to take the mindset that women have been having babies for a long time and until recently still worked quite hard (physically) throughout their pregnancy. Our bodies can often handle more than we give them credit for. I am not saying take risks not needed, but a backpack with textbooks should be fine.

I think you would know if something was wrong. Chances are everything is fine but I would give your doc a call just for a peace of mind. The tightening could just be Braxton-Hicks. Try to lie down and take it easy. Good luck. |
I think you should call your doc, for peace of mind. They can do a sono or just listen or do something to put your mind at ease. ![]() |
I think/hope you would know if it was something serious. I have to admit I'm almost 33 weeks and I regularly (daily) lift my 30 pound son. Sometimes I forget and even swing him around. |
I lifted my 3 yr old right up until I delivered and I never had any problems. I asked my doctor about carrying my 3 yr old and they said it's ok. I also moved some light furniture at 32 weeks and everything was fine. I delivered a perfectly healthy, 7 pound baby last year. |
You should, of course, call your doctor if you don't feel right. But, unless your bag of textbooks weighs more than a toddler, which it probably doesn't, pregnant women do this all the time. So you're probably fine and shouldn't be so hard on yourself. Heavy lifting during pregnancy is more likely to hurt you (stretched ligaments, etc.) but is very unlikely to hurt a healthy pregnancy. |
