One college called themselves a level 5 as far as academics go; said it was the highest level,
Another school said they were considered a 4 academically. What is this numbering system and how does one go about finding a school's rating? |
Could be the Fiske Guide. Fiske rates schools on academics, quality of life, and social life on a 1 to 5 scale. The book focuses on schools with academics that it rates a 3 and up (there are only a couple 2 star academic schools in the book).
^^Should have added that it's a totally subjective rating system with no indication of how the schools are rated. However, the book has nice write ups of every school. It's my favorite college guide.
Be wary of all these ridiculous ratings. No school can be reduced to a number.

Honestly, I'm looking for something less academically challenging. (I know...the opposite of what most people need/want.)

If someone know of a college that is not all about "weeding out" kids I'd love to hear about it. Or maybe it's just major-driven. I heard this 30 years ago in Engineering and my DD now hears it in her pre-Med courses. What's a decent major (not engineering or premed) and/or college that's not all about being the best but get 18-21 yr olds better prepared for life totally on their own?
