Breastmilk as a carry on item - without a baby

Anonymous
I will be traveling with about 10 days worth of breast milk. I checked the TSA site and said a "reasonable" amount of milk could be carried on, but what is considered reasonable? I don't want to check it for fear it will get lost or delayed. Has anyone traveled with a small cooler full before without trouble?? It will be frozen.

Done it. Check the archives - there is a lot of advice.

Print out the TSA guidelines because I have gotten agents who didn't know the rules and gave me a very hard time.

They will likely test your pump with their chemical strips - ask them to put on gloves or if you can open the zippers yourself - it really bothers me to have grubby hands on my pumping supplies.

Keep it frozen or cold with bags of frozen veggies - allowed through even if the ice and cooling packs are not.

Good luck!

I did it too, and no one even examined the milk or the pump.

Why not ship it ahead of time on dry ice?

Print the page from the TSA web site that notes breastfeeding moms are allowed to carry breastmilk on board, regardless of whether baby is traveling with mom. It is good insurance. They will test the bottles, but in my experience, the agents were friendly & the tests were quick.

the cooling packs are definitely allowed.

Because it cost $105 to do that last time.

I found the old threads, they were under the GP forum.

Thanks!!
