can you get a clear positive on an OPK but not actually ovulate?

I have heard that this is true, but seems weird.

Yes; I've had a positive OPK and bloodwork that showed no ovulation many many times. My body produces enough of the hormones to trigger the test but not enough to actually ovulate.

I'm same as pp. That's why I have found the Opks pretty much unhelpful in the past. Your body can have the surge which gets picked up by the opk but doesn't actually release the egg. Op have you had 21 day bloodwork? Do you have irregular cycles?

To those that got a positive LH but didn't ovulate, were your cycles regular or irregular?

Yes- take your temp along with OPK's. Your temp confirms ovulation.

OP here. Thanks all. I had some issues TTC #1 (actually conceived on the 3rd or 4th cycle, but then miscarried, then didn't conceive for 9 cycles). My cycles were a little long at that point---35 days but I was temping and thought I was ovulating most months. OBGYN did bloodwork and said I wasn't. I had borderline PCOS and was insulin resistant. Went on metformin and then did 1 cycle of Clomid (which I am never repeating) and luckily got pregnant with DD. Just started TTC again. Have not been temping but my cycles have been shorter and my regular than before 29-30 days. Based on CM and OPK's I thought I was ovulating but may not be. I think I need to focus on eating better and losing some weight (I am 15 lbs heavier than last time) and will start temping again. IF that doesn't work will think about metformin again--was hoping to avoid any fertility drugs this time.
