commute from Falls Church City to Rochambeau

Anonymous
We are a foreign service family and really need to locate at Oakwood Falls Chuch in 9 months or so, so my daughter can attend the preschool there (she has special needs). We would like our son to attend Rochambeau for continuity (he attends Lycee at post and will also do so at our next post and will likely be coming mid-year to DC Metro area).
Just judging google maps at various times in the morning there, it seems commute might be 40 minutes, up 66/495.
For anybody in the know, is this realistic?
Thanks

I'm just curious but what is this particular special ed preschool that isn't available in MCPS which has a wide range of special needs programs?

yes- this is realistic. Depending on time of morning you might make it faster. This is very close to my daily commute. If I get on 66 at 7:15 it is 30 minutes, if I get on closer to 8 it is closer to 45 minutes.

IMHO a nightmare. We ruled out lycée for this reason. Why not relocate to Bethesda. I am sure there are great preschools there that can accommodate your dd special needs.

Another foreign service family who will also return to DC next year. We will probably move to MOCO temporarily for close proximity to Lycée Rochambeau. What you're proposing sounds painful.

Thanks everyone. Yes, we are definitely considering just being in Bethesda. However, with the foreign service program, they have temporary housing in Falls Church that makes the move easier and our kids will know other kids there. With the foreign service moving that we do, it is nice to have a "home" with some of the same friends. And, the Falls Church Public Schools have been very easy to work with in terms of planning for my daughter.
