If so how much? Thanks
They shouldn't but in many schools they do. You have to be more specific about the school when you ask this question.
No homework in K at our school.
At our school it starts at first grade.
At ours there is homework in kindergarten. It started in the beginning of October. It came home on a Monday and was due the following Monday. It consisted of a out four pages of reading and four of math. There was also typically three of Spanish and one of science. There were two or three reports throughout the year that required research and writing and by the third quarter of the year there were weekly book reports of five sentences due. Spelling and geography tests were a couple if times a month and I recall a few science tests as well but I don't think they were that frequent.
Yes, and it is a big pain for the parents ... bring 3 objects that start with Q. Make a boat that floats. Bring pics of your family...

Our K kid has a little bit of "homework" but rarely something that he needs to do and take back in. Maybe 5 of those kinds of worksheets all year. He also is supposed to read with a parent every night.
My kindergartner, who is at a public FFX school, has weekly homework: reading (usually 3 little books and a few poems), handwriting practice (letter of the week), and some math worksheets.
No homework in K for us. Private in VA.
Language immersion charter in DC. Weekly homework.
Awful! What a PITA for parents! |
Homework in K is developmentally inappropriate. An enriched home life after school is best at this age. I would look for a new school.
My school does, but I opt my kids out of it.
