What happend to fish and seafood?

I can't bear to buy the farm-raised from South America fish anymore. It does not taste like fish (in the good sense) but smells like chlorine.
Will fish become a luxuary item? If you consider yourself a "fish person," i.e. you welcome eating most of a whole fish, where do you get it from?

I do a lot of business lunches and dinners, so get my fill there. Or when I'm in New England and can get it fresh.

Otherwise, sometimes trader joes has some frozen wild sockeye salmon, or whole foods haddock. It's tough though, getting fresh and sustainable.

Welcome to the result of over-fishing our oceans! Try and buying more sustainable varieties. High-end fish markets are the place to buy the best quality fish (Blacksalt comes to mind) or H-Mart for whole fish varieties...although, you are probably getting some farmed fish from there.

Some farmed fish are fine.

Sustainably farmed fish are perfectly fine. Even some of the tilapia from latin america is okay, and very tasty. The Monterey Guide is good to have handy.

I get ours at Whole Foods and Costco. You can also find 16-20 Gulf shrimp at Giant.

Same with chicken -- not even worth roasting a whole chicken anymore because of the flavor.

OP, some of the asian markets have fresh fish, lying on ice staring at you. Korean Korner has it and so do a few others, I think H Mart does too and a couple of others up Rockville Pike.

Unfortunately farmed fish do have more pesticides in them b/c of higher concentrations in their habitat vs. fresh caught.

It's a no win situation we're not taking care of our planet.

There is also petroleum and dye in the feed. I remember the first time I cooked salmon and the butter in the pan had an orange tint in it. Dye.

Yeah, and I take issue with it being very "tasty." It seems to be fish in name only.

We need to kill off more sharks

Black Salt restaurant also has a fish market. We only eat wild caught and usually buy at Whole Foods. I've never bought fish at Black Salt, but would for a special occasion.

A lot of farmed and wild salmon is dyed to look more pink. Very common.

Be glad it's just fish that doesn't taste good to you anymore. Nothing tastes particularly good to me anymore - fish, fruits, veg, cheese, 95% of meat... I used to enjoy eating and it all just tastes off.
