I'm in my 6th month and have been having leg pain due to sciatic nerve compression. My OB has encouraged me to participate in swimmingi workouts, as they are low impact and will help ease the pain. Totally clueless here as to where these types of workouts/classes are offered in DC or Northern Virginia. Anyone know of gyms or rec centers that offer these workouts? thanks! |
Are you near a YMCA?
In Ffx Co. they have a catalog of all their classes - Partakes. You can view it online or pick up a free copy at the libraries. |
The pool at Georgetown University (at Yates Field House) offers water aerobics classes. You may have to be a member to participate, but it is worth a try. |
Both the DC JCC (at 16th and Q) and the YMCA (at 17th and RI) in DC have pools. I don't know much about the Y, but the J definitely has classes and you can sign up w/out being a member -- but it costs a little less if you are a member. |
I did water aerobics (shallow water) through my whole pregnancy, until a week before I gave birth. It felt great to be in the water - pressure off the back, easier to move... Just make sure you let your instructor know you're pregnant. I did the classes through Fairfax County - the previous poster mentioned the Parktakes catalog. You can find it here: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/parktakes.htm |
I am 35 weeks now and have been taking the pre-natal aquatics class at the DC YMCA since 17 weeks. It's really nice to be in the water and talk with other pregnant women. I think they are registering right now for the January term. You don't have to be a member. |
