Private & Independent Schools
| We are looking at moving within the next month to the DC area. We are flexible to where that is so long as the commute can be thirty minutes or less to DC. Can anyone recommend good catholic schools and parishes for a 4 yr old and 7 yr old? We're looking at St Bartholomew and Our Lady of Lourdes in Bethesda, but we are flexible. (I'm not sure how I became so focused on Bethesda). Any comments on those or others? Thanks! |

Getting a spot for the 7 year old could be the monkey wrench mid-year. I know a lot of the schools are full in grades 1, 2, 3 or so. There's a boom in Mo. Co. or something.
Maybe St. Jane de Chantel (I think they have 2 classes per grade), St. Bart's (I drive by there and they always seem to have a banner out for enrollment) Our Lady of Mercy in Potomac, Little Flower in Bethesda, Holy Trinity and Our Lady of Victory in DC are probably all full but might be worth a call. St. Elizabeth in Rockville is a bit further out but they have a very nice, active parish. |

Have you looked at the Arlington Diocese schools in VA? They seem to have a good reputation, but I haven't looked at them closely (not at that age yet). At least for our parish school, St. James in Falls Church, there is always a lot going on.

Check out Cheverly in Prince George's County. It is a warm and family friendly town. Houses are reasonably priced, and many are walking distance to the Cheverly metro stop on the orange line, just 15 minutes or so from Capitol Hill. The community is very active and welcoming. One neighborhood school is St. Ambrose. We have an amazing new principal and great teachers; nice kids, solid academics.

| Thank you all for your responses. Greatly appreciate the leads. |
| If you are looking for a school for girls, check out Stoneridge School of the Sacred Heart. The place is amazing and does wonderful things with girls. |
| Would definitely look at Holy Trinity in Georgetown and Stone Ridge in Bethesda. Maybe St. Peter's on Capitol Hill and Annunciation in NWDC. |
| I know people are happy with St Johns in Silver Spring and it's walking distance to the metro (red line, Forest Glen) and you can get a lot more for your money if you buy a house in Silver Spring v. Bethesda. |

you might check out st ann's in nw DC. They have a pre-K program and *might* have current openings.
They are right by the tenleytown metro too. Definitely less than 30 min commute to downtown dc. http://www.stannsacademy.org/ |
