I'm just curious to learn more about the kind of people who have trust funds. I had never met any people like this until I moved to DC, got married, and started seeing these people at work and among DH's colleagues. So if you have a trust fund can you answer these questions:
1. What is your ethnic background? (WASP, Jewish, Asian, Hispanic, etc) 2. Did you come from "old money"? How many generations back does your family have wealth? 3. What is the size of your trust fund? If you're not willing to type a number, a range would be great. 4. At what age did you receive it? 5. When did you find out that you had a trust fund? When you were a kid? When you were in college? 6. What do you plan to do with it? Thanks! Just curious. I'm from a solid middle-class family. I worked as a babysitter and a dog walker as a kid and teenager, mowed lawns for cash, saved up to help pay a portion for my new car, and went to a state university for the in-state tuition and scholarship money. So this is a world I know nothing about! |
| No, white, middle class. |
| Fail thread. |

Yes.
Wasp. 21. 400,000. I sold stock to pay for grad school but otherwise don't touch it and don't plan to till I retire. |

Ps. It is from my grandparents. |
| Yes. No. |
| Thanks for the reply 23:30. To everyone else, if you disagree with this thread or you don't have anything to contribute, please don't be snarky. I'm just curious, and there's nothing wrong with that. These are questions I can't ask my colleagues in real life because that would be tacky and rude, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with being curious. |
| Be careful OP. Those who have trust funds don't talk about them. So you'll probably get a bunch of wannabes replying. |

Haha well that's why I'm asking anonymously on the Internet, where the owners of trust funds can talk about them anonymously. Instead of, you know, asking my colleagues
|
| I cannot imagine talking about having a trust fund at work. OP, what line of work are you in? |
|
1. What is your ethnic background? (WASP, Jewish, Asian, Hispanic, etc) Half Italian, half WASP
2. Did you come from "old money"? How many generations back does your family have wealth? On one side it goes back 3 or 4 generations, on the other side it goes back forever 3. What is the size of your trust fund? If you're not willing to type a number, a range would be great. there are multiple ones. they're all 7 figures. 4. At what age did you receive it? i get them at different ages/stages in life. 5. When did you find out that you had a trust fund? When you were a kid? When you were in college? i always knew 6. What do you plan to do with it? lots goes into savings/retirement. it paid for college, grad school, traveling, buying real estate, etc. I grew up in Manhattan, so many of my friends also had them. It wasn't really until I went to college that I intimately got to know people from different (financial) lifestyles. |
| I'm at a law firm. It's really more gossip about the trustafarians, than them actually announcing it. Though DH's colleagues who have them have said it. Mostly because they are good friends with DH. |
| Weird obsession OP. I went to an Ivy League school with a bunch of trust fund kids. I'm middle class and never even gave it a second thought. Some close friends have them but I have no idea of the specifics that you are asking. |
