Restaurant Eve birthday cake

Although I've heard about this legendary cake, I've never eaten there so I've never had it. I found a recipe for it, followed it exactly...and yuck! Super-sweet and nothing special. Has anyone else made this or had it at the restaurant? What did you think about it?

I had it at the restaurant and while the idea is a good one, it was by far the worst part of the meal for me - it felt very amateurishh; nothing like I would have come to expect at the end of what otherwise was an exquisite meal.

I also made it and wasn't impressed. But I've never had the restaurant version to compare. Maybe user error on my part.
