| Are there current parents/students that can comment a bit on the school. Wondering if there is a good peer group for quirky academic type kids with wide-ranging interests that don't fit into a sporty preppy mold necessarily and not coming in with a Catholic elementary school cohort of friends. It's a big school, so I assume there's a little bit of something for everyone, but one of the main appeals of the school for the family is the number of extracurriculars and ability to branch out but still find a core group of friends. Of course any comments on academics/best classes or departments would also be appreciated. Registration is next week, so trying to gather as much info from as many sources as we can. Thanks! |
Yes, it's a big school, and there's a lil something for everyone. DD is a junior and has all types of friends. White, black, hispanic, rich, poor, straight, questionable, kids in honors, the anime club, ROTC, the baseball crew, the friendship crew, CC and NW DC folks, friends from Bowie, adams morgan, from all over. And she didn't come in from Catholic elementary, had zero friends entering, and was able to fit in. We took advantage of the summer program for freshmen and that really helped. By the time September rolled around, she already had made quite a few friends. Be ready for lots of homework.

| Thank you! Very nice to hear. We will check into the summer program to help ease the transition. |
