Hoodies and middle schoolers

Anonymous
The new middle school my DD attends does not have lockers so the kids schlep their 100 lbs backpack and jacket throughout the day. Knowing this, I bought DD a not-so-bulky winter jacket. She wore the winter jacket up 'til recently and now wears just a hoodie. She has just two hoodies and wears one several days in a row. I'm sure she wears it ALL day long, too. Question: if the hoodie doesn't smell or is not stained, how long will you let DC wear a hoodie before you confiscate it to wash?

When it smells or has food on it.

Once a week? This isn't something I'd spend any time on.
Anonymous
Not until the smell starts to permeate some common area of the house.

I wish wash similar items when they get home, so that they can wear them again in the am.

Agree +1. And why doesn't she wear her coat anymore?

I think the more logical solution here would be to buy her some more hoodies. I wore the same hoodie every day for 2 years in high school. I wish my parents had just bought me some more that I liked and would wear.

My son has 3-4 hoodies.

You can find them very inexpensively pretty much everywhere.

Her school does not have lockers so she has to carry her laptop, binders, folders, lunch and jacket around all day. If she wears a hoodie, she wears it all day and that's one less thing she was to carry.

As someone whose mother refused to spend much on my clothes, can I please recommend you buy her more than one hoodie if she wears it every single day. Buy her at least one more. And wash them after 3 to 5 wears.

My DD's high school has no lockers. it really stinks to have to carry everything all day. she has also jettisoned the jacket and switched to hoodies, under armor under short sleeves, three-quarter fleece zips, etc. buy a few more hoodies

I'm sorry, but unless you have no money or a religious issue with hoodies, why is it hard to realize you need more hoodies? If she wears them too often to keep clean, then she needs more, right?

She owns four - but one is her favorite.
I'm sure most moms could relate to this.
